Our curriculum encourages children to think, reason, question, experiment and explore. Each child will have a Key Worker as we believe that warm, nurturing relationships are fundamental to meeting the young child's needs.
Here at Wells House we believe that a healthy diet begins the process of a healthy life. As a result, we will introduce ever changing menus to promote healthy eating and drinking. We accommodate children with dietary restrictions whether cultural, religious or medical.
You can see our latest OFSTED Report now on our Ofsted page. We had another tremendous report.

Wells House Kindergarten has been established since 1996. We are located on Ringley Road, Stoneclough, with excellent links to Swinton, Bury, Bolton and access to the M60/M62 and the A580 to Manchester. - See location map.
It is a detached setting with an extensive outside play area for all ages.
The nursery cares for children from birth up to 5 years of age and currently has 5 different units for children to be grouped according to age and development stages. Wells House is an inclusive setting.
We are committed to a child-centred approach to childcare; we actively encourage our children to be outside in the fresh air and participate in vigorous activities as we feel they are essential for the children's well being and fitness. The more children's muscles and senses are exercised, the more the brain will develop its capacity for learning.
The motto of Wells House is “Security, Knowledge and Growth”. With this important statement and the following concepts of Physical, Intellectual, Emotional, and Social (P.I.E.S) development, along with the Early Years Foundation stage, we aim to offer the highest standard of professional and stimulating childcare and pre-school education.
Meet the TeamWe love having your child in nursery with us, we are excited to play a large part in supporting your child’s development.
But did you know your child spends at least 70% of their time at home?!
You are such an important and special part of your child’s development.
You ARE their first teacher!
The science shows us that the most important time in a baby’s development is the time from conception to two. It’s a time when your baby is learning more than at any other time in their life.
That can feel huge, and it is, but it doesn’t need to be overwhelming and daunting.
What you do every day really does have a massive impact on your child’s outcome and we want to support you in being the amazing parent that you are!
Which is why we have invested in the Oliiki app, to give you a library of simple things to do at home with your bump, baby or toddler. You’ll never need to struggle again to think of things to do with your child, and on those tired days it will be a lifesaver!
The special thing about this app is it shows you tiny activities (that you might already be doing) to do with your baby on a daily basis. Each activity only lasts for as long as your baby is interested. Each activity comes with an explanation of what your child is gaining from the play that you will be doing together and only uses things from in and around the home.
It shows you what to do, how to do it and most importantly how it’s helping your child develop. As you use it each day, your baby will be developing essential skills that they will build on for all of the rest of the learning they will do in life. And you will be developing an understanding of the learning and development your child gains from the play you do.
So, while it may look like just tiny activities, they will be having a BIG IMPACT on your developing child.
So please enjoy using the Oliiki app with your child, we will also be using it in and around our setting!
Mindfulness is an essential means to achieving fulfilment and happiness. Mindfulness is is the conscience awareness of our current thoughts, feelings, and surroundings-and accepting this awareness with openness and curiosity in a non-judgemental way.
It means focusing our attention on none-doing, a crucial skill in these distracted times. It is more important than ever to teach ourselves and our children how to concentrate.
Research suggests that people with higher levels of mindfulness are better able to regulate their sense of well-being by virtue of greater emotional awareness, understanding, acceptance, and the ability to correct or repair unpleasant mood states...The ability to skilfully regulate one's internal emotional experience in the present moment may translate into good mental health (in the) long term.-Jeffrey M.Greeson,PhD
The most important years for the growing brain are from birth to age six (although it doesn't finish growing until around the age of twenty-five). Practising 10 mindful minutes a day can change the direction in which society is moving and is preparing and building Healthy and strong minds in the next generation.
By sitting and mindfully breathing for 10 minutes (although we only start with just 3 minutes with the children),in as little as 8 weeks you can strengthen the part of the prefrontal cortex involved in generating positive feelings and diminish the part that generates negative ones.
We as a nursery feel that this is important and we have introduced mindful thinking to both staff and our children and use this ancient method of mindful practise to help develop their strong minds and prepare them for the future ahead.
We are the only nursery to our knowledge who practise mindful awareness and feel the children benefit from doing so as they accept their feelings and have been given a coping and managing strategy in using mindfulness, We do this by teaching the children the importance of breathing and how to breath using various techniques and introduce the ' barking dog ' and the 'wise owl' to help tackle our anxiety, anger or stress they maybe feeling.
The Pre School for example develop their mindfulness with the help of Lottie the dog, a home link and circle time exercise for the children. Through storytelling, the children learn about how Lottie is feeling anxious and scared and together they will discuss how to overcome these feelings.
We explain their feelings of anger/frustration as a barking dog in their brain (from the limbic part of the brain, which is responsible for how we feel) and we show them breathing techniques which will put the dog back into his kennel and will bring the wise owl out
(the cortical part of the brain, which is responsible for how we think about things, our talking and our way of thinking).
Lottie and the children learn how to overcome her worries and anxieties to lead a healthier and happy mind. These techniques are also used in dealing with negative or unwanted behaviour and to help develop the children's understanding of negative behaviour and how to overcome these feelings in a positive way.
For any Parents interested in mindfulness the nursery has some excellent resources that we can loan you. We also have ideas for Mindfulness activities such as
