About Us

Wells House Kindergarten has been established since 1996. We are located on Ringley Road, Stoneclough, with excellent links to Swinton, Bury, Bolton and access to the M60/M62 and the A580 to Manchester.  - See location map.

It is a detached setting with an extensive outside play area for all ages.

The nursery cares for children from birth up to 5 years of age and currently has 5 different units for children to be grouped according to age and development stages. Wells House is an inclusive setting.

We are committed to a child-centred approach to childcare; we actively encourage our children to be outside in the fresh air and participate in vigorous activities as we feel they are essential for the children's well being and fitness. The more children's muscles and senses are exercised, the more the brain will develop its capacity for learning.

The motto of Wells House is “Security, Knowledge and Growth”. With this important statement and the following concepts of Physical, Intellectual, Emotional, and Social (P.I.E.S) development, along with the Early Years Foundation stage, we aim to offer the highest standard of professional and stimulating childcare and pre-school education.

Meet the Team
oliiki app

Oliiki

We are super excited and proud to be part of the Oliiki family and for all our registered parents to be, and parents of our under 2s rooms will receive a present from us! – The Oliiki app, supporting you to support your child to reach their full potential.

We love having your child in nursery with us, we are excited to play a large part in supporting your child’s development.

But did you know your child spends at least 70% of their time at home?!

You are such an important and special part of your child’s development.

You ARE their first teacher!

The science shows us that the most important time in a baby’s development is the time from conception to two. It’s a time when your baby is learning more than at any other time in their life.

That can feel huge, and it is, but it doesn’t need to be overwhelming and daunting.

What you do every day really does have a massive impact on your child’s outcome and we want to support you in being the amazing parent that you are!

Which is why we have invested in the Oliiki app, to give you a library of simple things to do at home with your bump, baby or toddler. You’ll never need to struggle again to think of things to do with your child, and on those tired days it will be a lifesaver!

The special thing about this app is it shows you tiny activities (that you might already be doing) to do with your baby on a daily basis. Each activity only lasts for as long as your baby is interested. Each activity comes with an explanation of what your child is gaining from the play that you will be doing together and only uses things from in and around the home.

It shows you what to do, how to do it and most importantly how it’s helping your child develop. As you use it each day, your baby will be developing essential skills that they will build on for all of the rest of the learning they will do in life. And you will be developing an understanding of the learning and development your child gains from the play you do.

So, while it may look like just tiny activities, they will be having a BIG IMPACT on your developing child.

So please enjoy using the Oliiki app with your child, we will also be using it in and around our setting!

We are a Mindful Nursery

Wells House Kindergarten became a Mindfulness Nursery in 2014. Tina Knight the owner wanted to focus on children's wellbeing, particularly in helping and supporting children dealing with Stress and Anxiety and after a lot of research she attended an 8 week Mindfulness course. Tina quickly saw the potential of its use within the nursery setting and introduced the Pre School staff and children first.

We have seen positive results in the children and staff and we hope that we will be able to develop mindfulness throughout the nursery.

Mindfulness and Wellbeing at Wells House

Pioneering emotional wellbeing in the early years for 15 years

At Wells House Kindergarten, mindfulness isn’t a trend—it’s a cornerstone of our practice. We are proud to say that we have been a mindful nursery for nearly two decades, long before it became widely recognised in early years settings. Our deep-rooted belief in the power of mindfulness is woven through every part of our provision, from our baby rooms to our Preschool environments.

We have consistently seen how mindfulness transforms behaviour, builds emotional resilience, and creates calmer, more connected children—and we continue to champion its role in healthy child development.

What Mindfulness Looks Like in Practice

Across all age groups, mindfulness is embedded into daily routines and interactions. Some examples include:

  • Breathing techniques to help children calm and focus
  • Emotion check-ins that allow children to name and understand their feelings
  • Mindful transitions, such as soft music and visual prompts to ease movement from one activity to another
  • Sensory mindfulness activities, including yoga-inspired stretching, listening walks, and nature-based grounding
  • Circle times that build community and compassion

We teach children that it’s okay to pause, reflect, and respond—rather than react. This supports the development of self-awareness, self-regulation, and empathy.

Why It Matters

Mindfulness in the early years is more than just a calming tool. Research shows it enhances:

  • Executive function and attention span
  • Emotional intelligence and social skills
  • Mental health and stress regulation (Weare, 2012; Siegel, 2020)
  • Resilience, enabling children to cope with challenges in healthy, adaptive ways

Our long-standing commitment means that mindfulness at Wells House is not just something we do—it’s part of who we are. Staff are trained to model mindful responses, offer emotional coaching, and create environments that support calmness, curiosity and connection.

Not Newcomers—Just Passionate Practitioners

While many settings are only now beginning to introduce mindfulness, we are proud to have been integrating it into early years practice for almost 20 years. We’ve seen its power to:

  • Strengthen children’s emotional resilience
  • Support behaviour in positive, respectful ways
  • Prepare children for a fast-moving world with confidence and calm

We invite you to visit our setting and see for yourself how mindfulness shapes our daily rhythm, our relationships, and the confident, kind, and capable children who grow here.

Here are some of the comments Ofsted made about Wells House Kindergarten in their latest report

  • The experienced and long standing management team are committed and passionate. They have high aspirations for the quality of the nursery. The management team regularly create clear targets to help them improve further.

  • Since the last inspection, they have forged links with local primary schools and nurseries and together they share good practice.

  • The environment is highly stimulating. Each area is carefully planned to capture children’s interests and to support their development. For example, older children benefit from a vast range of activities and interesting resources aimed specifically at supporting their literacy skills.

  • A wealth of information is exchanged between staff and parent’s. Staff offer well targeted support for parent’s to extend children’s learning at home. For example, parents are offered activities and professional advice, such as tips on promoting children’s speech. This contributes to the good progress that children make.

  • Staff provide a consistent approach to promoting children’s positive behaviour. For instance, staff working with very young children use picture cards to communicate positive messages, such as kind hands. Older children help to create the rules which are displayed in their room. All children’s behaviour is good in relation to their age.

  • Staff have a good understanding of safeguarding procedures. This is underpinned by effective policies. Consequently, children's safety and well-being is supported

  •   The management team demonstrates a strong commitment to promoting high-quality childcare

  •   Regular training opportunities undertaken by staff ensure qualification levels are high and they are equipped with the skills and knowledge to provide quality care and learning. This has had a positive impact on the learning experiences offered to children, particularly babies
